Surgical Tech

OR has a good team of surgeons and techs. The facility is showing its age compared to newer hospitals in the area. Limited PRN hours makes it hard to pick up extra shifts when you need the money.
LPN / LVN

Decent place to work as an LPN. They actually utilize LPNs well here unlike some hospitals. Pay is low for the workload but the staff is friendly. Good stepping stone.

Came back to bedside ER nursing after years in management and this department reminded me why I love this work. Fast-paced, supportive team, and the docs treat nurses as equals. Pensacola is lucky to have this ER.
Occupational Therapist

Geriatric OT caseload is heavy and discharge planning pressure is intense. Insurance denials are constant and you spend as much time doing paperwork as treating patients. The actual clinical work is rewarding though.

Night shift team is phenomenal. We help each other out and the doctors respond quickly and actually involve nurses in decisions. Day shift management is a different story though. Ratios can get unsafe.

Smaller ED but stays busy. Good experience for nurses who want variety without the chaos of a Level I. Staff is tight knit. Pay is a little below Pensacola rates. Short commute from Pace.
APRN / NP

NP role here gives you autonomy and the physicians are collaborative. Small community hospital so you see a wide variety of patients. Wish they would invest in competitive pay to retain good providers.

Ortho patients are heavy and the staffing doesnt account for the acuity. You end up doing total joint replacements and hip fractures with 5 or 6 patients. The small town community feel is the only thing keeping people.
Physician / Resident

NICU rotation during peds residency was outstanding. The neonatologists are invested in teaching and you get hands-on intubation and line experience. Nursing staff is supportive and the unit runs like clockwork.

Nurse to patient ratio is poor and unsafe at times. Upper management doesnt listen when we raise concerns. I love my job and my coworkers but the staffing issues might push me to leave eventually.
